Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is this study important?
For a long time, patients with darker skin tones have faced difficulties when seeking help and information about their hair, skin and nail issues. Discussions with both patients and the general public identified lack of representation in images and challenges in the personal experiences of the dermatological condition. This study looks to address some of these issues.
What conditions are we studying
We have a focus on common dermatology conditions that are not cancers. The 5 priority conditions include eczema, psoriasis, acne and hidradenitis suppurativa. However, other skin conditions may be included, depending on the recruiting centre.
What does the study involve
Participants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire on the experience of their dermatological condition and consent to photographs of their condition.
Who is running the study?
Dr Elise Kleyn, Dr Tamara Griffiths and Dr Chiedu Ufodiama are leading the SkIN DP study. Drs Elise Kleyn and Tamara Griffiths are Senior Lecturers and Consultant Dermatologists working at the University of Manchester and Salford Royal Hospital.
